Exeter has historic charm and a vibrant downtown with a scenic river, similar to the nearby city of Portsmouth NH but on a more intimate scale. It is home to the American Independence Museum and prestigious Phillips Exeter Academy...and is often recognized as having one of the greater Seacoast area's finest public school systems (SAU 16). High-quality education attracts families from all over the world, and many have chosen to settle in Exeter NH neighborhoods.
The town is ideally located between Manchester, Portsmouth and Newburyport MA. It's one of three NH stops on the Amtrak Downeaster train route from Boston to Portland! And only a 15-minute drive away from Hampton Beach on the Atlantic Ocean.
In downtown Exeter, you'll find fabulous shops and boutiques (two of our favorites: The Willow and LunaChics) and many cafes and fine restaurants...locals love Laney & Lu for smoothies and The Green Bean for homemade soups and sandwiches. Fine dining standout Otis attracts foodies from all over the greater Seacoast area.
